Whistler has a population that values physical activity. A variety of clubs and teams in the community nurture involvement and skill development in a number of sports. This is clearly evident when you look at the younger sector of the population, who are attending school.

The Physical Education Department at Whistler Secondary School seeks to further encourage and expand upon students' previous experiences. A town such as Whistler provides a number of unique opportunities for physical education related excursions that would be difficult to match elsewhere. Depending on the season, the nearby lakes, hiking trails, mountains and other facilities are accessible.

Classes often enjoy hiking in the Cheakamus Valley, rock climbing, indoor tennis, and various classes have enjoyed watersport days where they were exposed to kayaking, canoeing, and other watersports. The fact that the Meadow Park Sports Center is a short walk from the school enables classes to make use of the swimming pool, skating rink, weight room, and squash courts.

Our Physical Education Department covers basic team and individual sports during their seasons, as well as introducing gymnastics, dance, and with guest instructors, kickboxing, tai chi, and yoga. PE courses at the senior level have been offered when there has been sufficient sign up.

Our Physical Education program tries to be unique and gives students the opportunity to do far more than run drills. With an emphasis on participation, volunteerism, and leadership, the atmosphere in PE classes is usually enthusiastic, involved, and challenging. Physical Education
