Applied Skills Print E-mail

The term "Applied Skills" automatically implies that this is a department where students learn to practically apply their knowledge. The courses in this department introduce the students at Whistler Secondary School to a variety of valuable skills that are important in the world of today and tomorrow.

Mr. McIver is responsible for the Science and Technology portion of the Applied Skills Department. In these courses he teaches the students about different methods of propulsion, aerodynamics, effective energy use, and mechanics.

Wood design courses at Whistler Secondary Schools are particularly aimed at instructing students in a practical way. Most of the time that students spend in these classes is in the wood shop, where students learn through demonstrations and practice.

One of the most valuable skills that people can learn is how to take care of themselves and others. In courses like Foods and Nutrition, students learn about healthy life choices and how to maintain balanced diet. Students learn about their nutritional needs, and how they can be met by consuming a variety of foods, as well as the benefits that regular exercise contributes to a healthy lifestyle.
