The Science Department at Whistler Secondary School offers the full range of high school sciences. Junior courses, Science 8, 9, 10, each cover the three main divisions of science: chemistry, physics, and biology. At the senior level, these are each separate courses. Students can select which specialty in which to pursue their studies. The grade 11 level is the last year at which completion of a science course is mandatory for BC graduation, and aside from the main three divisions, Whistler Secondary School has also offered Earth Science 11 and Information Technology 11 which satisfy the requirements for a science course. Grade 12's can take up to three provincially examinable courses in the field of science. Chemistry 12, Physics 12, and Biology 12 are regularly scheduled. At all levels, science courses involve studying the history of the growth of scientific knowledge, an understanding of the practical applications of this knowledge, and the opportunity to observe and participate in the scientific processes during problem solving activities and lab situations. The Science Department has a number of staff specialists. Whistler Secondary students have consistently scored above the provincial average in Grade 12 provincial exams, giving credit to the Science Department.
